The
NACA Emergency Supportive Services, a small but vital program, continues to be successful in providing assistance to individuals and families in crisis. The program offers several different types of assistance. One type of support is provided through an informal arrangement with the Flagstaff Family Food Center. The center drops off sack lunches each morning at the NACA Main office. Lunches are free and offered on a first come, first served basis.

NACA is also an off-site distribution location for a limited number of
emergency food boxes through the Care and Share Food
Bank. The boxes contain non-perishable canned goods for emergency needs only. Individuals needing emergency food supplies can come in to NACA during regular working hours and receive a food box on an “as-available” basis. Minimal requirements apply. For more information about the NACA food box program, please call the main office.
The other components of this program are offered through a more formal process. Individuals requesting assistance must submit an application that explains their situation and support needs.
To qualify for services individuals and families need to
be an active client with any of NACA's program for three
or more months.
The NACA Supportive Services Committee, comprised of staff members, reviews the requests and makes recommendations to fund them fully, partially, or not at all. Individuals are eligible to receive assistance once a year. Written procedures and funding agency requirements guide the committee in making decisions.
A second type of support is through funds received from the
Navajo Way and provides emergency support for members of the Navajo Nation residing on the reservation. The funds assist families who are temporarily in Flagstaff due to medical or other crises out of their control. Examples of emergency services provided included temporary lodging with a referral from the Flagstaff Medical Center social workers, food vouchers and gasoline. Individuals must be Navajo with a tribal enrollment number, but they do not have to be NACA clients.
NACA also provides other supportive services on a limited basis through funds raised at events such as the
Sacred Mountain 10k/5k Prayer
Run. For more information about the NACA Supportive Services program, please call the main office.
