NACA's WIA
program, funded through the Division of Indian and Native American Programs
(DINAP), is designed to enrich the lives of Native Americans by helping them achieve economic self-sufficiency through employment and job training.
|
|
|
Native Americans who are economically disadvantaged, unemployed or underemployed are able to access work experience,
job counseling, referrals and placement, classroom training, career counseling, academic counseling financial aid and educational assistance. Experienced WIA counselors provide ongoing case management to their customers in a manner that is culturally appropriate and holistic in nature. Through individual development plans, the counselors work with the customers to set goals, and identify needs. Referrals to other NACA programs or outside community agencies are made as needed.

DINAP: It is our shared vision that the WIA, Section 166 program be administered in a manner consistent with the traditional cultural values, beliefs, and ways of the people it is designed to serve.

| Customers are able to explore career opportunities through meaningful work experience while earning a paycheck. |

| Job seeking skills and resume development assistance
is available. Or, customers can conduct their own job seeking activities through access to computers, Internet and other job search tools. |

| Academic and vocational training is available for those wanting to further their education or technical skills. |
|
| Stipends to assist customers with training-related expenses. |
|
| The program operates on a schedule that includes both daytime and evening hours for the convenience of customers who are students or are employed. |

Important Program Details:

|
| In order to apply for NACA WIA services, applicants must be Native American, Alaskan Native or Hawaiian, live off-reservation in Coconino County, and be economically disadvantaged, unemployed or underemployed. |
|
| A general orientation and intake session is held
as scheduled by WIA staff for interested individuals who meet the basic eligibility requirements. Required for participation in WIA, the orientation gives individuals all of the details they will need to get started on their new educational or career path. |
|
|
|
|
WIA has a proven track record of providing high quality education and work experience to its customers. In fact, nearly 90% of the individuals served in 2000 were highly satisfied with the services they received at WIA and the staff with which they worked.
